Better Than Dennis

The 1-mile loop that we ran this morning.Here's a bird's eye view of the 1-mile loop that Mark setup for us this morning. Nice job everybody. I heard some good split times this morning. Lots of folks kept those splits within about a minute. For the couple of folks who couldn't make it this morning, we did 3 runs of this mile loop, with a 3-minute break between each run.

Fight Gone Bad Fundraiser

This Saturday, there's a big fundraiser being put on by Crossfit gyms all across the country. The Atlanta area gyms are all getting together at the Marine base up in Smyrna. I'd highly encourage y'all to come out to support and cheer folks on, and even to do the workout if you're so inclined. It was a ton of fun last year. Some of the highlights were watching a crew of firefighters do the workout in full turnout gear and then seeing some of the Marines do the workout in full combat gear, body armor,etc. plus gas masks. And even if you can't make, think about making a donation for this great fundraiser.

Also, one of BTB's own- Brad Davis (Poncey gym) would like to share a story with you guys. Check out THIS ARTICLE to read the obituary of one brave soul. This was Brad's Brother in Law who was one of the SEALs who lost their lives in the recent helicopter crash. Tossin' Weight Around

Stretching it out after a Dennis Deluxe workout.Heck of a lot of plank out there this morning, amidst throwing around all that weight. Hope y'all liked it. If not, blame Dennis. He's the diabolical man behind all that!

Freedom Funk

So there's been a few folks who've been affected by some Freedom Funk lately. From time to time it rears it's ugly head and some folks will get rashes, in varying forms or intensity, from the grass, usually wet grass. Our best guess is that it's likely some funky fertilizer that might be tossed out there by our good ole public works folks, but we're not really sure. We wanted to share a few tips with y'all on what you can do to try and minimize the funk:

Best defense: Wear long pants & long sleeves.  Wipe off back at the car - we always have baby wipes available. If we forget to put them out, just ask for them. Then wipe off any remaining grass with your towel. Shower as soon as you can and keep a tube of hydro-cortizone cream on hand.  Most folks find the bumps occur about 6-10 hours after rolling around in the grass, so take the tube with you to work.  If you apply the cream immediately, the bumps go away quickly.  The longer you wait to apply...the worse it is.  CVS sells a cheap store brand and it works perfectly.  Over the years, we have had many theories from doctors as to the cause of the Funk.  Some think bug bites, some allergies...no one really knows.  So take precautions especially if you have sensitive skin.

Also had a question this morning about beef jerky, where to get it, etc. I'd recommend avoiding Slim Jims because who knows what's really in those things. And the standard jerky you see at Kroger and Publix do tend to have a lot of sugar and salt and some other funky preservatives in them. You'll find some natural jerky at the grocery stores, though, for a little bit higher price. Be sure to check out Whole Foods and Trader Joes as well. If you want to order some jerky online, check out www.midwest-jerky.com - I've ordered from here a lot and really like the jerky. Simple ingredients and super tasty. A quick online search shows up some other good looking sources, like American Grassfed Beef. Anybody else have some good sources you'd recommend?

September is HERE! 

All of a sudden, it's "sweata weatha", football season, and a new month of OTB.  As Grizz would say, "Sweeeeeet, Sweetness!"  Great Job this week everyone! Thank you Anna for the burner this morning. 


We'd love to hear your Goals for this Month. If you don't have any goals yet, here are a few you might consider: Perfect Pushup Form all month, Improve Squat Form, Cut out soda for the month, Cook dinner at home X nights per week.
