Gimme A Tabata Holla!

How much do you love Dr. Tabata?!? Sooo much, right? Well here's a little background info on our friend...

Dr. Tabata is a Japanese fitness researcher.  The Tabata Protocol was developed for Olympic caliber athletes.  It consists of six to eight 20 second full speed sprints followed by rest periods of 10 seconds.  Dr. Tabata’s study found that doing this kind of exercise 5 – 6 days a week increased both aerobic and anaerobic capacity at a greater level than an hour of endurance exercise.

The key to the Tabata Protocal is the rest periods.  Conventional training suggests that a rest period should be 3 times as long as the period of work.  But the Tabata protocol calls for a rest period that is half as long as the period of work. This gives a physical and mental break while keeping the intensity at a high level.

At boot camp, we have learned that you can apply the tabata protocol to almost anything.  Tabata squats, tabata sprints, tabata, push-ups, tabata dips…heard of tabata driving?? Ask someone!

Apparently The Tabata Protocol can be influential in all aspects of life.  Check out this article called Tabata My Job about working more efficiently.

What do you gotta tabata??

It was an AWESOME day today at Freedom and made even more awesomer with a guest visit from our very own original Freedomite Jules!!! whoohoo....what fun fun fun Jules to have you in the funk with us today. And THEN if that wasn't enough...we did PLAYDATE for our workout! (created by Lauren - also an old time Freedomite). I am melancholy about our Freedom group evolving into something else....but I will take away SO MANY wonderful memories and new friends that have changed my life. Literally. We might be moving on to something new at Piedmont, but our Freedom experiences will remain with us always. Love ya'll!

It was total old skool today in the funk. Not even barriers could keep us out of our little park.

Rosemary, you are too sweet. I still remember that first playdate with Lauren too...and oldie but such a favorite!

So many great faces out early this morning...and new friends too.

I heard tomorrow is going to be an awesome send off to BTB BootCamp, and that there may or may not be alcoholic beverages at 7am AND 7pm. What?!?

BTB has changed my life and continues to do so...and am eternally grateful for Jeff and Melissa for starting this program, and as Freedom was my original home, I'm so appreciative of our fearless leader Erin, all the instructors, and all the campers who made it so fun to get the funk at 5:45am.

I heart BTB!
